On February 16th I did a book signing at Bath Waterstone's, my first of 2011.
I set up near the science fiction section with my table and sweets and waited for people to come by. At first I was unsure that I would do very well - the events' manager had told me if I sold 5 I was doing well - and at first I was unsure I would even do that. It was quite slow to start with, but gradually as I got talking to people others overheard and became interested. In the end I had a steady flow of people and was really pleased with the day.
I even had the great pleasure of meeting an established author of romantic fiction, Katie Fford, who was very supportive and bought a copy of Liberation. After all, there is a romantic thread or two running through the book. We now follow each other on Twitter.
The picture on the right is the advertisement in the book shop window.
I spent about four and a half hours in the shop chatting to anyone who braved the table and sold to a mixture of ages and interests. Strangely the sweets were not such a draw as they had been in Salisbury.
The kind security guard brought me a coffee and the staff kept checking I was happy, which was very nice of them. One even took this photo of me, as I tend to forget the camera is in my bag.
The sales were so good that Homequest: Liberation went straight into their science fiction and fantasy best sellers at number 10. Not quite as good as the Trowbridge number 1 but for an author just setting out it was exciting to see it on their shelf amongst some other amazing writers.
Here are the pictures of the book on the shelf - all signed by me :-)
One day I hope I will be number 1 ......
